Increase website traffic
Ways to increase website traffic are pretty much uncountable these days. Directories and forums were always the place to start years ago but now there are social networking, web 2.0, You Tube, Mobile Phone search and on and on. Posting to directories and forums though is still a very viable way of building traffic. Here are a few guidelines if you are just atarting out.
Start to increase website traffic by listing in the most important directories. "DMOZ", is perhaps the oldest directory and it is the directory Google first counted on to stock its search results. DMOZ.org still is very important to Google. DMOZ should be your first choice for more website traffic too. It's hard to get into because its a human edited directory and the editors can be very choosy sometimes.
Firstly dont apply to DMOZ, or anywhere for matter, before you have ten pages written in your website. Less than that, you just wont have anything the editors can see. Also, avoid monetization on your websites while you go through the directory listing process. It will take a while to get the kind of traffic that warrants monetization anyway. While you wait for traffic to exceed one hundred visitors per day, concentrate on applying to DMOZ and other highly ranked free directories. Guaranteed Website TrafficYou cant really get guaranteed website traffic, regardless of what so called guru's may tell you. The traffic is all in proportion to the effort you get into finding it, and in how good you are at finding worthwhile traffic sources. As for what directories to apply to in order to increase website traffic, let Google and Alexa be your judge.
Install the Google tool bar, so you can check the page rank of each directory you visit. Go to alexa.com and check the Alexa ranking of the forum or directory. What you are looking for are directories with Google page rank higher than four and Alexa ranking one hundred thousand or less. JUst finding directories that meet this criteria will eliminate hundreds of choices.
The first kind of directories you choose should be those related to your niche. If its gardening, look for the most popular gardening directories. If its bird watching, then the most popular birding forums and directories. Try to get listed only two or three clicks from the home page if possible. Dont bury your listing twenty clicks down in the category listings. Create your own categories to achieve this if the directory will allow it.
Regardless of which directory or forum you list in, make sure to keep things real and for the human visitor. Dont just place your link or URL. In a directory list a good description of your website. Have one ready to cut and paste. I a forum, try to go out of your way to help other forum members with a problem. Post and article about something that forum goers want to know about. You are trying to build trust so that visitors voluntarily come to you giving you more and more website traffic.
